North and South: Community leaders back BART PDF Print E-mail

From the north to the south, Santa Clara County community leaders understand that BART is good for all of us.

Today, the Gilroy Dispatch published a letter from several community leaders and the Palo Alto Weekly printed a piece from former Mayor Gary Fazzino. BART will help these regions, even though the extension won't go there, by connecting with Caltrain to give commuters real alternatives to fossil fuels and time lost in traffic. Measure B helps us plan for a future growth, by getting cars off the road.

"I've supported plans to green buildings in San Jose and to clean our creeks and streams by banning plastic bags. My support of Measure B puts environmental protection on track. It gives commuters a real alternative to driving and studies show that they will take it. About 75 percent of BART riders have other options to get to work, but prefer BART. And estimates show the 16-mile extension would carry 100,000 daily trips. That's a lot of cars off the road."
