REAL ESTATE: man sentenced for deceiving homeowners

Los Angeles man was sentenced today by a Riverside County Judge grand theft in scamming almost 2,500 homeowners, including many in Riverside County, to pay for a copy of the deed they grant to prove ownership of their property.

Pablo Alfonso Fourquet, 37, on October 11, entered a plea of guilt for crimes of theft by false pretensions district. He was sentenced to 174 days in county jail, three years probation, formal and back pay of $ 417,000 for victims.

In March 2010 Fourquet started a business called the title compliance office sent a letter to emerge from a Government Agency-for homeowners along the Riverside County also in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas, according to the Riverside County District Attorney. A letter stating that because of the foreclosures and loan modifications is going home owners should have a copy of the certified grants their actions. They were ordered to pay $ 167 to the Compliance Office will then get a copy of their actions.

Homeowners nearly 2,500 fall victim to this scam between April 2010 and April 2011, and during the investigation of crime authorities seize more than $ 500,000 from the Fourquet's range of bank accounts.

The District Attorney's Office said there were several occasions when the homeowner will need to have a copy of the deed of grant and a certified copy of that can be easily retrieved through the county assessor's Office is generally less than $ 10.
